Xiaomi has announced the arrival of its latest range of smartphones. This is the all-singing, all-dancing Mi 10T family of handsets that is made up of the standard version, Pro model and a Lite offering. As you might expect the whole family supports 5G technology.
Taking on the role of the company's flagship offering, the Mi 10T Pro has been designed to take your mobile creativity and exploration experience to the next level. Featuring dimensions of 165.1 x 76.4 x 9.33 mm (H x W x D) and weighing 218g, the Mi 10T Pro will be available in a choice of Cosmic Black or Aurora Blue. The unit's body, constructed of an aluminium alloy frame, will be protected, back and front, by Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5. Dominating the front of the handset is a 144Hz 6.67-inch TrueColor DotDisplay with a 20:9 aspect ratio and delivering 2400 x 1080 FHD display. The screen has a colour contrast ratio of 1500:1 typical and a 3.0 rating for sunlight display and reading mode. It is also Low Blue Light certified.
Continuing its drive to push the boundaries of its handset photographic capabilities, the Mi 10T Pro has a triple camera set up mounted on its rear. This set up consists of a 108MP wide-angle camera with a 13MP ultra-wide angle camera and a 5MP macro camera. Mounted on the front of the handset is a 20MP camera with a 77.7 degree field-of-vision.
Adding to the capabilities of the camera set up, Xiaomi has added six long exposures modes to create eye-catching effects. These modes include capturing shots from a moving crowd, creating swirling starry skies and capturing four images of your subject in a single shot. Three new photo filters have been added. Video has not been forgotten as Video Clones lets you capture "two selves" in one video and Dual Video can record simultaneously from the front and rear cameras. You can also capture time-lapse Selfie videos.
Built around a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 865 at up to 2.8GHz clock speed, backed by the Qualcomm® Adreno™ 650 GPU, the Mi 10T Pro has a 5,000mAh high-capacity battery with support for 33W wired fast-charging. A 33W charger is included in the box. With support for WiFi 6 and multi-functional NFC, this dual speaker and dual SIM smartphone with 8GB + 256GB has a price tag of £599 and will be available from November 2nd and available from Amazon at the date of publication for £502.11, including free delivery.
The Mi 10T model is similar in some respects to its more powerful big brother but there are some differences. While the dimensions of the handset remain the same, the handset's weight has been reduced by 2g with the Aurora Blue colour being replaced by a Lunar Silver livery. The processor remains the same as does the battery. However the 108MP camera has been down-graded to a 64MP model while other camera elements remain the same. The Mi 10T will come with 6GB + 128GB and a price tag of £469 from mi.com/uk and Amazon UK from November 2nd.
With the claim of being the most affordable 5G smartphone in the UK, the Xiaomi Mi 10T Lite gives purchasers the choice of a Atlantic Blue, Pearl Grey or Rose Gold Beach handset.
Slightly smaller and lighter than the other units in the family, the Mi 10T Lite has dimensions of 165.3 x 76.8 x 9.00 mm and weighs 214.5g. While its body frame is plastic, this model still retains the protection of Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 back and front.
With this model, Xiaomi has gone with a rear-mounted quad camera set up. Keeping a 64MP wide-angle camera company are an 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. A 16MP camera is mounted on the front.
Providing the insight for the virtual world offered by the handset is a 6.67-inch DotDisplay with a 20:9 aspect ratio and a 2400 x 1080 FHD+ resolution. As with the other members of the Mi 10T family, the Lite version supports Reading Mode 3.0.
With this model, Xiaomi has paired a Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 750G up to 2.2GHz clock speed with a 4,820mAh high-capacity battery. Again 33W wired fast charging is supported. A 33W charger is included with the package. This dual SIM handset will be available in either 6GB + 64GB or 6GB + 128GB versions priced as early bird offerings for £199 and £249. These prices will then rise to £229 and £299 later.
Xiaomi has also announced its first smartwatch. This is the Mi Watch. Featuring a 1.39-inch bright AMOLED panel, the watch has a dedicated side-mounted sports button giving the wearer access to 117 exercise modes. Making use of six different sensors plus GPS, the watch can provide health matrices and environmental data covering aspects such as heart rate, blood oxygen level and air pressure. Other features of the watch include camera remote, native emojis, voice control and a store of over 100 styles of watch faces. After two hours of charging the watch has a claimed battery life stretching to 16 days. The Mi Watch should be available in December but, as yet, I have no information regarding its price.
