The Zhiyan Smooth XS Gimbal has a minimum of 30cm from the base of the grip handle to the top of your landscaped phone, this can increase by up to another 25cm by extending the units arm, so 55cm should enable you to capture video above the tallest person, even then the unfurled tripod could give you another 13cm so now you have a possible 68cm.
Once you have read the instruction sheet and registered it online you are able to control the Gimbal remotely even through a second mobile phone meaning you can anchor the tripod with your first phone and then use the second to get rock solid images.
In the box is a wrist strap, a carry pouch and a short USB ‘C’ to USB charge cable.
Like most recent items the heart of the control and setup is to be found online in a large number of videos that cover everything you need from basic setup to more advanced uses.
The side of the box tells you what is inside and provides links to both the iOS and Android stores to download the App.
This Gimbal is now compatible with Smooth 5 and Smooth-X2 so they could be used in unison.
The same website also has a .PDF copy of the User Guide which shows you how everything works in both words and illustrations.
Should this not solve any problems there is the top ten of possible problems answered on the site.
Like the previous Gimbal I reviewed on 29-9-21 I was able to get movements far smoother than possible with only handheld offerings in fact I tried it on several occasions capturing a similar sequence both with and without the Gimbal.
So should you need to capture moving images especially when you cannot be braced – like in a crowd – a Gimbal should certainly give you improved stability, the greater the distance the more important it is to use a Gimbal. Zhiyun UK site is the second link which shows the complete range of Gimbals available.
The Zhiyun Smooth XS Gimbal is available from Amazon priced, at the time of publication, at £62.99
