In a lot of cases you want more volume than is available, either because something was recorded at a low level or you are in a noisy environment. Often increasing the volume will also increase static and other things you don’t want. The solution can often be as easy as playing through a DAC as this gives you what you want more volume as well as clarity of sound.

click image to enlargeThis offering from Creative is the latest DAC they have brought out. Sound emerges from your phone at the same level as the DAC is sitting just beyond the USB ‘C’ connection. It is 6.5cm long, 1.5cm wide and only .5cm thick. At the base of the unit is the USB connection which the supplied 12cm USB ‘C’ to USB ‘C’ lead takes. There are four buttons on the face of the unit and at the top of the unit a 3.5mm socket which goes to your earbuds or headphones.
While I have said ‘phone’ above the output can be from PC, MAC, Nintendo Switch or other devices with a USB ‘C’ outlet.
What exactly will a DAC give you; firstly more volume as it is am amplifier but also more clarity of sound and all this in the 6.5x1.5x.5cm body that weighs less than 20 grams.
A 45x27cm double sided fold out sheet of paper has the instructions on what the controls do in a dozen languages.
It also has a microphone built in so not only can the music or sound emerging have more depth and volume so what goes in on say a phone call can have more clarity at the other end.
It can be used by just connecting it but for even more features you can download the Creative App from the Apple or Android store.
Once you have heard output from a quality DAC like the Sound Blaster X1 from Creative then you know what was there all the time that you could never hear previously. It can also give better output from games and movies.
