Not the Orient Express

The enclosed environment seems to be the ideal place to commit a crime especially when it involves murder.

Fancy a train journey?  You will, of course, be expected to perform certain tasks as you enjoy this trip into the unknown.  In your role as an eminent detective you will be required to examine the body of a dead woman and then investigate her murder in order to catch the killer.  Basically you have to follow the clues laid out in  set path through the game of Hidden Object Legends - Deadly Love.

Once on board this Domini Games created train, you have little option but to follow its set journey through a wandering route of 72 individual stages.  However you do have some input regarding the game's level of difficulty.  You can opt for Casual, Advanced or Hardcore mode.  Depending upon your choice, the Hint and Skip features are recharged quickly, slowly or disabled completely.

Fortunately, as you will need to work your way through the full package of 72 levels,  there appears to be a distinct lack of other passengers on board the train to interrupt your progress with false clues and red herrings and get in your way.  In order to investigate the poisoning of the victim, you will need to visit each of its 72 levels in turn.  Each level will consist of a set task that could involve a Hidden Object type challenge or a mini game puzzle that will need to be completed in order to move onto the next level.

While the game retains the usual mini game puzzle option found in other Domini Game titles by allowing you to select an Easy or Hard version of the puzzle, Hidden Object game play is not treated in a similar fashion.  Many Domini Game titles allow you to switch to Match 3 game play instead of the default Hidden Object challenge.  However you do not get this option with this title.  It is Hidden Object game play or Hidden Object game play.

The game does make use of a wide variety with its Hidden Object game play styles.  Often the required items to find will be displayed as text which are shown three words at a time in either standard format or appearing as jumbled words.  In some cases you will need to identify an item from a riddles.  Sometimes items will need to be selected as being matched in different ways or can come together to form the one you want.  At other times you could be asked to find a number of footprints or spot the differences between the main scene and a small second scene as you keep switching between them.

As with the Hidden Object variety of formats, the mini game puzzles are varied in their type of task.  Among the challenges faced are those of matching fingerprints, arranging a series of water shoots to create a flow of liquid plus set dials to bring in a motion in response.  In other instances you might need to link elements, arrange balls in the correct positions, correctly set a clock face and place symbols correctly within an area.  By selecting the Hard version, you might need to deal with more elements or multiple stages for the current puzzle.

While the actual murder and associated crime scene are set on board the train, several of the levels in the game are based within other locations, including the residence and work place of the main suspects, as you search for clues and evidence.  On the few occasions that you do need to question possible suspects, dialogue will be both delivered by a voice actor and appear as text.  Despite the crime being committed on a train full of passengers, you will only need to work with a minimum number of suspects.

Once the crime is solved you will gain access to a bonus chapter that deals with a second murder conducted in the prison holding the original murderer.  Personally I must admit to have lost any real interest in solving this second crime.

I downloaded my copy of the game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  You can also download it from Big Fish Games priced at £15.79.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 806MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
