In around 18 months Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 so now is the time to start looking for a suitable Windows 11 machine. This offering from Acer in the Aspire series supports 'the earth' by using more suitable components, they name this feature VERO.

It is 35x25x2cm the last figure at the back while the front is only a little over 1cm thick and it weighs 1845 grams.

Going around the outside has two USB 'C' an HDMI and USB socket, the front is clear, the right side has two LED's, 3.5mm audio socket, USB and Kensington socket. The rear is clear. The base has four 2x.5cm green bars to keep the base clear of whatever you rest it on and to improve ventilation, there are also two speaker outputs near the front.

Raise the lid to reveal the 100 key keyboard. Boot up after the initial setup is around 15 seconds, screen shutdown is only 4 seconds . There is 2cm clear each side of the keyboard and 3cm clear behind while there is 11cm clear in front of the keyboard for your wrist rests, the 12x8cm track pad is 9cm from the left and 14cm from the right.

It comes with a 16 inch screen with 1cm borders the centre of the top border has a web cam.

It has an Intel Core Ultra 7 155U running at 1.7GHz. 16GB RAM. ITB 'C' drive and 1TB 'D' drive. It has a 64 bit Windows 11 Home v23H2. The default screen display is 1920x1200.

The initial setup will take around 15 minutes to answer all the questions before you get to use the notebook.

The screen is excellent with good colour and sharp display. The speakers were adequate but being downward facing wasted some of the potential volume. I was perfectly happy using it perched on my knees and the fact that as soon as you touched a key the keyboard backlit for around 20 seconds so is ideal for use in less than perfect lighting conditions.

At the time of publicaiton the Acer Aspire AV16-51P is available directly from Acer priced at £1049.99.
