This 21.3inch panel can be used either portrait or landscape and is easily big enough to display two pages of a Word document side by side. That however is only a small part of its abilities.

Surprisingly it fits in the same space taken by my 17inch monitor in fact I have an area about 18x40cm free in front of the panel that was just not available with my monitor in place. Whereas I used my monitor at 1024x768 the panel has just the same readability at 1280x1024 and the amount of extras I can fit open on the Desktop is incredible.
There was one initial snag I removed my monitor and switched on with the Panel in it's place and it would not support the 85Hz refresh rate I used with my panel. Now the problem - you may think I certainly did - could be resolved by going into Windows in Safe Mode and cutting the refresh rate, however refresh rate is not changeable in Safe Mode. So reconnect my monitor and drop the refresh rate to 72Hz and then reconnect the panel. A monitor at 17inches is a lot heavier than a 21.3inch panel.
If the refresh rate is set too high there is a nice screensaver shown once the boot attempts to go graphical to avoid any damage. In fact you can set the display up to 1600x1200 but my eyes could only cope at 1280x1024. Even so there is a lot more information than 1024x768. This panel has inputs for both Analog and Digital (DVI).
The unit can of course be rotated and Portrait mode in a high resolution can be great for things such as CAD or very large spreadsheets.
The actual outer dimensions of the panel are 37x47cm so you can see it is getting nearer a square, the actual diagonal viewing area is 21.3inches, the rim around the panel is only 2cm.
There are six buttons on the base of the screen surround, these are capable of making lots of adjustments, however, the only one you are likely to normally need is the 'Auto' button and that only once. I attached the unit to two different PC's both worked fine during the trial period with the Panel. One PC had a distinctly milky look to the display but there are two utilities provided and these run within Windows allowing you to either adjust the PC or your Printer to get results that correspond. The milky look lasted all of around three minutes while I tried various settings after that it was fine. For some reason the other PC was perfect all along, I never even needed to adjust the 'Auto' I expect the graphics cards caused the differences.
I do not want to get to used to the unit as it would need a substantial outlay to make it my own. The price is £728.99 at www.dabs.com A link is below. I have no doubt for anyone needing such a large area it is good value especially for such a small outlay of area amount. However even for this flicker free and excellent panel across the whole range of text, graphics and video I fear it is too much for me.
