This latest offering from Acer has another plus ‘touch’ so ideal for those not keen on the Touchpad.
It is 32x22.5x1.5cm this last measurement is at the back, at the front it is only a tad over 1cm. It weighs only 1284grams. The viewable screen is 31x17.3cm which gives you very close to the imperial measurement of 14inches, the aspect ratio is 16:9.
The left side has USB ‘C’ and 3.5mm headset socket. The front is clear; the right side has USB3 and Kensington Lock socket. Rear is clear as the screen goes back to 185 degrees. The base has four 1.5cm square feet one at each corner and the two speakers are located behind the front feet. At the top centre of the area above the screen is a webcam.
The original Chromebooks required Internet access as they had no memory of their own, the main drawback to that was is there was a power cut you could neither work nor play; now of course that has changed and they have both Ram and storage.
The keyboard is 77 keys, there is 2.5cm clear on either side and 3cm clear behind. The 9.5cm gap in front on the keyboard has the 10.5x7.5cm trackpad is mounted centrally in that area.
This comes with 128GB of storage and barely 25% is used for the operating system. It has 4GB RAM as well as a full HD 1920-1080 screen with touch display. The processor is an Octa Core offering running at 2GHz.
All day battery life is mentioned and indeed I used it for very close to 12 hours before I had to plug in the power lead. While this has a power lead that ends in USB ‘C’ you can lighten your load and use anything that has USB to USB ‘C’.
So now I always try to point out any minus points as you will see from the information above, there is no Ethernet – however its Wi-Fi is good – and as there is only a single USB3 socket you may need to invest in a hub. While there is adequate sound for a quiet room with the speakers pointing down these could be better.
However I cannot find another equivalent Chromebook with touch.
