Saitek Stereo Headset

Do you enjoy music on the move? Or perhaps your tastes run more to video. But have you considered how your choice of entertainment might affect others in the vicinity?

Entertainment on the move is gaining popularity at a pace.  We have MP3 players; notebooks with a DVD player as standard; and an ever-increasing number of hand-held devices that can provide video playback capabilities.  Where ever we go, music and video is on hand to keep us entertainment.  However this mobile entertainment does require that we are considerate towards others who might be in earshot range.

Rather than afflict others with our taste in music or videos, we should use a headset to confine any audio output to our ears alone.  The audio branch of Saitek appreciates this and has produced an entry-level product in the form of its A-300 Stereo Headset.  This headset combines the ear-bud approach with over the ear clips to ensure that the unit stays firmly in place while we are on the move.

Rather than saddle the user with an over-long length of lead, which can easily become entangled, Saitek has opted to provide a permanently attached lead of just 35cm with a 3.5mm jack plug.  In addition you also get two extension leads that can increase the overall lead length.  One extension lead increase the length to 100cm while adding the second brings a length of 165cm.  The various leads did feel rather flimsy but coped adequately with some fairly energetic use.

The audio output from the ear buds is provided by lightweight Neodymium speakers. (Neodymium, from the Greek words "neos" and "didymous" meaning new twin, is a bright, silvery metal element which is used for colouring glass and ceramics plus infra-red radiation filtering).  I am unsure, alright completely baffled, as to how Neodymium affects the technology but I do know that using the headset certainly produced improved audio output when attached to my notebook.  The sound was solid and rounded without any apparent tinny affect.  There also appeared to be minimum audio seepage that you can often get with such devices.

Normally I do not like the ear bud style of headphones but the audio quality produced by this unit could help change my opinion and encourage me to use such a device.  A soft material pouch is provided to help keep the entire kit together when not in use.
