Bootup is not that rapid at 44 seconds but there is a dock provided that if used as a Tablet also keeps everything charged so if you wish is can be always on. Apart from use via Wi-Fi it can take a SIM so usable on a journey.
The default Home Screen has eight choices in a line along the base of the screen, Info Centre that displays the number of any messages, notifications or emails etc. Chrome, Photo Album, Camera, Maps, Alarms. Gmail and All Apps this last option will display names of eight items per page when in landscape format.
One feature which even as someone who has used Tablets quite a lot is Touch Trainer that teaches you to use all its features easily including how to get the Menu Bar when in full screen mode and Quick Step that uses scrolling to see things not currently on view.
This tutorial will quickly get a novice user up and running but there also a very comprehensive 98 page book called Emporia Advisor supplied with the unit that ‘has all the answers’ for a new user.

So for someone who has retired this gets you into the 21st Century. As an example you may have used computers for years in an office at work but never owned one and even if you are an expert in say Excel or Power Point you may know little else as your support person has tuned your PC as a tool for Excel or Power Point.
You have access to Android Store that can install Apps for almost anything so things that you never used can soon become familiar. Whereas previously if something strange occurred support was one phone call away now you are your own support team.
This is a good basic Tablet/Notebook and spending around an extra £50 at time of purchase to get the keyboard/book cover will be the best £50 that you will ever spend.
