Emporia Tablet with Keyboard

Image of author
It looks a lot like any normal Tablet but has software that helps those who are slowing down due to age or other reasons. With the aid of a £50 keyboard/book cover – purchased at time of sale – it can be turned into a Notebook so you can still type normally and the magic does not end there as the Tablet is exactly 10.1inches and for that reason Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point are all free to use forever.

The cover will give some protection if it is dropped and of course the screen is covered when book cover is fitted. It weighs 1134 grams and measures 25x16.5x2cm; the viewable screen is 24x14.5cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 10.1inches.

Bootup is not that rapid at 44 seconds but there is a dock provided that if used as a Tablet also keeps everything charged so if you wish is can be always on. Apart from use via Wi-Fi it can take a SIM so usable on a journey.

The default Home Screen has eight choices in a line along the base of the screen, Info Centre that displays the number of any messages, notifications or emails etc. Chrome, Photo Album, Camera, Maps, Alarms. Gmail and All Apps this last option will display names of eight items per page when in landscape format.

One feature which even as someone who has used Tablets quite a lot is Touch Trainer that teaches you to use all its features easily including how to get the Menu Bar when in full screen mode and Quick Step that uses scrolling to see things not currently on view.

This tutorial will quickly get a novice user up and running but there also a very comprehensive 98 page book called Emporia Advisor supplied with the unit that ‘has all the answers’ for a new user.

It comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie offering.

So for someone who has retired this gets you into the 21st Century. As an example you may have used computers for years in an office at work but never owned one and even if you are an expert in say Excel or Power Point you may know little else as your support person has tuned your PC as a tool for Excel or Power Point.

You have access to Android Store that can install Apps for almost anything so things that you never used can soon become familiar. Whereas previously if something strange occurred support was one phone call away now you are your own support team.

This is a good basic Tablet/Notebook and spending around an extra £50 at time of purchase to get the keyboard/book cover will be the best £50 that you will ever spend.

Full details of the product can be found on the Emporia website.

At the time of publication the Emporia Tablet is available from Amazon for £270.
