When the subject of Wacom is broached, my thoughts immediately focus on the company's extensive family of digital pen tablets and associated products.  Recently the company has added to its catalogue of offerings with a couple of new items.  These are the Wacom Intuous and the Wacom One.

The first of these new products is, in fact, three offerings as there are three different models of the Wacom Intuous.  They have been designed to provide the user with the facility to draw, paint and edit their photos.  Offering a slim and compact design, the Wacom Intuous comes in a choice of pistachio for the small sized unit and black for the larger medium unit. 

Bundled with the different offerings is a battery-free pen which is both light and comfortable to hold.  This is due to the pen making use of EMR (Electro-Magnetic Resonance) technology.  The pen has a built-in nib compartment and is supplied with a nib removal tool.  With its 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, the pen is expected to give the user control and precision in the production of graphic creations.  Along with its nib compartment, the Wacom pen features two control buttons that are further supplemented by 4 customisable ExpressKeys™ that can be assigned different tasks.

Suitable for either right or left-handed users, the tablet, providing the surface for the user's creative work, comes in small (200 x 160 x 8.8 mm) or medium (264 x 200 x 8.8) sizes.  There is also an option of selecting a small unit with just a pen or you could opt for a tablet with Bluetooth connectivity and a pen in either the small or medium sizes.  Depending upon your needs and choice, you will get a work area of 152 x 95 mm with the small unit or 216 x 135 mm with the larger medium product.

With regards to connectivity, the three units offer a standard USB A port for basic connection.  With the Bluetooth models  you have the option of connecting to a computer via a Bluetooth wireless link,

Wacom offers a choice of downloadable software depending upon your choice of tablet.  The choices on offer are made up of Corel® Painter® Essentials™ 3, Corel® Aftershoot™, and Celsys Studio Paint Pro (two year user license).  Purchasers of the small pen only product can select either of the first two items while the small Bluetooth and pen tablet can have any two of the software items.  If you opt for the medium unit then you can download all three titles.

Supplied with a two-year limited warranty in Europe, the Wacom Intuous is happy to work with WIndows 7 and later or MacOS X 10.11 and later.  A quick check of the Internet revealed that Amazon has the three Wacom Intuous models listed at £69.98 for the small pen only unit, £69.99 for the small Bluetooth and pen model and £171.45 for the larger Bluetooth and pen product.

Moving on to the Wacom One release, this product is aimed at the more serious user offering both USB and HDMI connection sockets.  Supplied with a pressure-sensitive, cordless, battery-free pen with a customisable side-switch, the Wacom One is of the familiar tablet shape.  It has dimensions of 225 x 357 x 14.6 mm.  This size allows the device to give the user an active screen area of 294 x166 mm with a 16:9 aspect ratio.  Suitable for left and right -handed users, the screen is capable of delivering full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 resolution.  The screen offers a typical viewing angle of 170/170 with a contrast ratio of 1000:1.

While I have not actually got my hands on the product, Wacom claims that its active screen area is almost A4 in size.  The screen makes use of natural surface friction and minimal reflection.  This gives the user the illusion that they are drawing or writing on paper rather than glass.  The Wacom pen has the usual 4096 pressure levels which prove useful when sketching, drawing, annotating documents and enhancing photos.

Included in the package are a number of bonus software items.  In some cases the software are time limited as to their use.  You get up to six months use of Celsys Clip Studio Paint Pro, a 2-months license for using Adobe Premiere Rush and the Bamboo Paper app from Wacom.  Currently Amazon has the Wacom One listed at £383.00 including free delivery.
