This Philips Air Purifier measures 66cdm tall, 35cm wide and 25cm deep.
It comes assembled but not ready for use as you have to unwrap the filters which although in place are sealed until removed unwrapped and reinserted.
The filters are in line, first the HEPA filter, then the NanoProtect AC and then the Pre-Filter.
All the controls are on the top surface and are invisible when the unit is off.
Everything is explained in the 84 page A5 User Manual which has the first 22 pages in English and has sufficient illustrations.
While for the majority of us a fan gives the illusion of cooling the air it certainly can make you feel cooler on a hot day this works to remove the invisible impurities in the air which for those who are healthy and without allergies make little difference unless of course the air is very poor quality.
However if you have an allergy then in certain cases an item like this can make you feel normal or for very serious cases it could save your life.
After removing the packaging around the filters and plugging the unit you press the left most button on the top to turn the unit on it briefly moves through the colours shown in the 12cm circular hole 6cm down from the top and unless there is a serious air quality problem it will then turn blue. While this light does nothing it can be a distraction in your eye line and would certainly be so at night so it can be switched off without affecting the units use.
The internal fan has five speeds and at the lower settings in quiet, there is a special sleep setting which is silent.
Anyone purchasing this would probably have allergies to things like pollen, pet hair and or dust mites, the allergen mode can remove more than 99% of these, the claim is actually 99.975%.
It can work for a room of 95m². It has a clean air delivery rate of 397m³ per hour.
For those who need the unit to operate at set times there is a timer so it could switch on and off when required. It also has a child lock.
In the sleep mode all the display information will turn off one minute after sleep mode is selected.
Although I am asthmatic my problem is normally kept in check by an inhaler and it only becomes a problem when other medical problems combine.
For anyone with serious allergy problems then a device such as this can be useful it is light enough to move around as required. The User Manual explains maintenance – cleaning of filters – and other things to check.
The Philips AC3256 Air Purifier is available from Amazon for £359.95 with free delivery.
