Seashell Ear Pieces

RevoNext, the Swedish audio specialist has added to its product portfolio with the release of the company’s RX8 offering. This is an in-ear personal listening device. The RX8 kit consists of the clearly labelled left and right ear pieces units, audio cable and a spare set of covering caps plus a small multi-lingual User Guide that features a small typeface so you might need a magnifying glass – I know I did.
Available in a choice of grey, red or black (my review sample) the two ear piece units have been ergonomically designed. Each unit consists of a streamlined semi-transparent sound chamber onto which is affixed a professional shell of polymer polycarbonate that has been specifically imported from Germany. The design of the RX8 ear pieces is such that the left and right units should fit naturally in the ear canal to ensure a more comfortable seating and clearer delivery of the audio stream.
RevoNext has built into the RX8 ear pieces a combination of a dynamic driver and a balanced armature to produce the necessary high and low pitch that makes up the audio. Added to this is a triple frequency equalisation feature that helps deliver high resolution and gives a more natural feel to different genres of music. The ear pieces are then treated with a high gloss and a high smooth UV-curable varnish hardening process. The finished effect has the appearance of a polished seashell that has been prepared for decorative and collective purposes.
Before making use of these earphones, you will need to attach the supplied lead which is of the twisted twine variety. This 122 cm lead splits partway along its length so that it changes from a single strand at one end into two strands for connecting to the ear pieces. The lead is adjustable so that you can increase or decrease the length of the two strands to best suit your needs. The single stand portion of the lead has a standard 3.5 mm jack plug for connecting to the chosen music source.
The two strand section of the lead connects to the two ear pieces via small two-pin plugs Attaching the twin plugs to the ear pieces was a little fiddly as the connection was located in a small cavity in each ear piece but it did become easier with practice and I certainly had plenty of practice as I was constantly switching the ear pieces between the left and right strands of the connecting lead during the review process. It did not matter which ear piece I attached to which strand, I could only get audio from one strand which ever ear I placed it in.
Having reported the issue, I was sent a replacement unit and this one worked fine with audio being delivered along both strands to the two attached ear pieces situated in my ears. The difference in the audio quality delivered by a single or pair of ear pieces was well worth the wait.. The RX8 delivers a clear, rounded audio experience that seems to suit the music being played.
I quickly discovered that these earphones were more suited to being used in a relaxed environment as I rested in an armchair. On the very odd occasion when I attempted any physical activity, the RX8 ear pieces expressed their disgust at my unusual energetic behaviour by being AWOL from my ears.
The RevoNext RX8 earphones have a price tag of £24 from sites such as Amazon.co.uk and the RevoNext website. The company is also running a Black Friday campaign from the 10th – 30th November when the first 100 people to purchase the product will get a pair of Bluetooth earphones (value $30) and a fashion carry case.
