Puzzles in France

While visiting France you can test your Jigsaw and Swap puzzle solving skills.

For the next destination of its Puzzle Vacation series, Tiny Little Lion has opted for a location that is a lot closer to home than the previous Antipodeans' area.  With this next title you can look forward to testing your puzzle solving skills with images based on France.

A similar choice of options are available when setting up this game.  Profiles can be created to record the progress of different players while volume levels for background music and sound effects can be set.  The game can be viewed in full screen mode with a choice of resolutions plus a user-defined choice of table cover for use when puzzle solving in the focus.

With the Puzzle Vacation series you are given the choice of working with different puzzle formats either as Jigsaws or Swap type puzzles.  The game supports 26 Jigsaw types and 27 Swap type puzzles.  Among the choices on offer when select either Jigsaw or Swap you could opt for types that include Animal, Circle Jumble, Knobbed Arrow, Ripples. Circles & Squares, Double Bands or Petals and Stars.

You also have a choice in the source of the image that will form part of the chosen puzzle.  These images make up 125 scenes that have been categorised into seven different types which are displayed in a photo book type interface.  You can select from 13 Temples, 30 Animals, 16 City views, 9 Food items, 28 Miscellaneous items, 17 Scenery views and 12 Castles.  There is also a Custom category which allows you to make use of your own images for the chosen puzzle due to be solved.

Having select the type of puzzle to be solved, you can also make a choice of the number and shape of the pieces making up the puzzle.  There are also options as to whether a rotation feature will be included or not and how much help in the form of Hints will be available.  A completed puzzle can bring the rewards of some information regarding the chosen image.

While compulsive Jigsaw and Swap puzzler might set themselves the task of tackling every type and available image in the program giving them a massive pool of puzzle solving, I was more selective.  Even so I occasionally managed to encounter information regarding an image that left me slightly confused.  For example when completing a Jigsaw of a cat, I was informed that the image was that of a fort built in the 15th Century and was considered a masterpiece of military architecture.  This was not the breed of ct I would appreciate meeting late at night.

Apart from an occasional piece of mis-information, puzzles should enjoy this title.  I downloaded my copy of this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.61.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 4096MB of RAM and 501MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
