Firstly in it's smallest configuration it is 7.5x3x3cm and weights less than 50grams. It is basically an oversized pen drive in an 'L' shape as it is powered by a single 'AAA' battery (supplied) that fits in a pod that clips into the side so the measurements given are the maximum.
There is a 3x1cm LED display and this shows quite clearly a three line display the top two lines in one size (these are mainly icons) and the bottom line that is probably the track name in a larger type.
The unit is controlled by a jog wheel to turn it on and off etc on the end, this can also move forward or backward a track. Three silvered buttons under the LED display control the volume + and - and the third button changes mode. On the bottom edge is a 'hold' button. There is a pin hole microphone on the top to the right of the LED display and on the opposite end to the jog wheel is an earbud input. The earbuds provided are far better than you may think and give a good clear sound. I often have problems with earbuds provided with these soft of devices and normally prefer to use my own latch over ear buds. Here although I used both I was happy with those provided. Out and about I think this setup works well, the single AAA battery lasts around 10 hours and the quality of sound recorded by the pin hole microphone was good.
In use two the body of the unit minus the battery and housing fits into the left headphone, while two AAA (supplied) fit into the right headphone. The sound is excellent and almost totally removes any external noise, although I typed as I listened I was totally unaware of any clicks from the keyboard.
The weight of the headset with batteries is around 300grams, one reason why this is an indoor product, another is as you cannot hear anything else it would be dangerous to wear outside. The main unit fits into the left headphone and the controls are visible and workable but of course you would need to take it off to view the LED display but the jog wheel can be worked by feel so tracks can be advanced or reversed without any problem. While I doubt you would use the recorder in this mode it is possible. The headphones are well padded and very comfortable to wear if a little warm - because of the padding - after a while.
The final use is to use the headphones as an output for any device that has a female 3.5mm adapter as the male is in the left headphone and should you use them in this manner you would not need the batteries in the right headphone.
Ministry of Sound items do not tend to be cheap so the likely price is probably around £70, but do bear in mind that you are getting three devices in one and in fact two people could use them at the same time in uses one and three were selected.
Doing my Internet searches found them at only Tesco Online for a very keen £55 including p&p. If you are on the look out for a tri use product then here it is.
