Love Letters

How well do you know which letters can be used to produce words?

"Love Letters" is a new release from Mixo Games' catalogue of products.  While, due to its title, some might think that this offering is about those romantic missives that would dominate personal communications in the past, this title is more to do with the ability to create words using clues in the form of available letters.   Some might regard this offering as being a simplified form of a part of a Scrabble board display.

After carrying out the usual housekeeping tasks of creating a profile, you can adjust volume levels plus select a Play Mode from Casual, Normal or Extreme difficulty level.  There is an option for windowed or full screen viewing with a custom cursor and the game will also offer a choice of European languages for use with the game.

As mentioned, this game does bear some similarity to a one-player version of Scrabble.  You will be shown a small section of a partially created Scrabble board with an arrangement of letters in the form of tiles and some available spaces against a picturesque background scene.  Accompanying this layout will be a supply of available letters.  It will be up to the player to use these letters to fill the blank spaces in the main tile arrangement and thus form words in this mini crossword Scrabble format.

Occasionally certain of the tiles in the layout could feature an embellishment which could hamper your view of the letter they hold.  This might be a temporary or more permanent blockage.  You will need to work round these types of obstruction in various ways so as to make use of them in the forming of words.

While you have freedom of choice in the order in which you use the spare letters when adding them to the layout, you will find that some form of restriction is applied to the available space.  In some cases you might get away with adding the letter to a space if the result reform a word but your action will be refused if no word is created.  However later you might need to remove the misplaced letter if you need it later for another space in the Crossword style layout.

Each completed level of the game will bring a financial reward.  There will also be a bonus of a scattered few coins appearing around the layout which you can collect and purchase entry to some bonus mini games and the automatic development of your Spring Garden view feature.

This is a game that will really only appeal to those who have a strong affinity for Scrabble and its word creating ability or those attempting to improve their Countdown skills.  "Love Letters" is available from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99 or Big Fish Games priced at £7.73.  The game requires a 1.6 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 527MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
