Cursed House 13

While hardly qualifying as spring cleaning, a vacancy exists for somebody to remove unwanted mischievous spirits from houses with a history.

SIA LGT has returned to the company's drive to clear certain mansions from unwanted residents who have taken over old buildings.  The results of SIA LGT's latest effort can be seen in the release of Cursed House 13, a Match 3 title with over 100 levels of activity that can sometimes require brain twisting logic while achieving tasks.  You will also need to solve various mini game puzzles.

In order to enter this old-world type residence you will need to create profiles for different players, adjust volume levels and opt for full screen viewing with a special cursor.  There is a choice of three different modes of play as you select from Relaxed, Timed or Move Limited options.  I tend to start with Relaxed mode before moving onto the other styles once I feel more comfortable later with the style of play.

With Match 3 game play action taking over most of this title, you are presented with a series of grids that come packed with all manner of objects, some of which have the effect of creating a chain reaction with a variety of elements and results.  To complete each of the numerous Match 3 levels, your main objective is to remove up to ten gold coins from the grid.  Generally this task can be carried out by an explosion created by the appearance of a group of three and more similar tiles or through the use of a rocket which will automatically target a gold coin.

When clearing away the gold coins found within each Cursed Home grid, you can use the standard Match 3 method of creating groups of three or more similar tiles by switching two adjacent tiles.  This action can often result in keys entering and releasing locks, the removal of bugs and the activating of certain routines producing desired results.  As a result of your normal cleansing activity, you might need to tackle ice blocks, load vials with liquid drops, deactivate magnets and set up appropriate links between elements.

To assist you in completing these various tasks, you are provided with a working cannon, a useful Hint feature indicating possible areas to attack plus the ability to create power-ups in the form of a rocket, bomb and a device to remove a selected type of tile.  An on-screen Help feature is available to provide assistance when dealing with the manner in which tasks are carried out within the game.  You can discover how to cope with elements such as stones, lava, fog, sand, ice blocks, chains and a darkness that can only be cleared by a special light.

The completion of a Match 3 grid level sometimes brings the reward of a change of action as you are presented with a mini game puzzle.  This could involve a game of Solitaire as you clear an arrangement out of cards by creating chains of one higher or lower sequence.  Hidden Object game play also makes an appearance as you might need to locate a number of well-integrated objects in a scene depicting ghostly activity.  For more light relief you might be put in charge of a beetle that can push, but not pull, diamonds into the appropriate locations within a playing area.

Cursed Home 13 can certainly provide a challenging Match 3 experience for hunters of varying skill levels.  I downloaded my copy of the game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.80.  The game requires a 1.6 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 135MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
