Once again Pets take centre stage with my gaming review output with this next title from Tiny Little Lion. Based on Hidden Object game play, with a spattering of mini game puzzles, this title is I Love Finding Cats & Pups. My review of the title is based on the Collector's Edition version of this product which comes with a number of bonus items that consist of bonus chapters, wallpaper, music facility and details of the developers' cats and pups.
Allowing the game to be played by different people, profiles can be created to record their progress. The game can be played in full screen mode or from a choice of resolutions. Adjustments can be made to the volume level settings for music, sound effects and ambience. There is also an apparent option to select a language version but, as there is only a single choice, the only option of that of Hobson's.
Spreading itself over 18 different locations, this game combines Hidden Object searching with mini puzzle game action. Each location opens with two separate Hidden Object style tasks, The first of these tasks shows a typical scene overlaid with a panel running across the bottom of the screen.
The panel will provide feedback as to how many cats and pups are concealed within the location. The scene will also contain a number of butterflies which double as morphing items and can be placed on your search list. The panel will also display a text list of the specific items that you need to find; a link to a secondary scene plus links for Hint and Zoom facilities.
At any time when searching for items, you can switch between the main and secondary scene without suffering a penalty. While the Hint feature will pinpoint items, it serves no purpose when finding cats, pups or butterflies, the Zoom feature can reveal such items once activated. An enlarged view of the scene will be portrayed as you mouse the mouse cursor around the scene.
This Hidden Object challenge will be followed by a second take on this type of game play. You will be shown two different scenes, laid out side-by-side, that feature a number of different items that include three pets of the cat and dog category. You will need to find these pets plus the various listed items.
The dual side-by-side approach is also used when you are faced by a Spot the Difference mini game puzzle. You will need to identify the difference between the two scenes along with any pets the scenes may contain. Differences can be spotted in either scene.
A more regular mini game puzzle will involve the repairing of a scene containing sections that have been altered. In some cases this might require the swapping of two sections, or cycle through several possible replacements and even rotating sections that have been further split into smaller parts. Other puzzles include finding pairs of objects within a cluttered scene or arranging shades of colour in sequence.
Once the main 18 locations have been completed then you can move on to tackle six bonus locations and their accompanying puzzles. You can also check out the developers' favourite pets and build up images of butterflies in a special album by releasing the butterflies captured during the main game.
With plenty of Hidden Object game play with an aside of puzzle solving, I Love Cats & Pups Collector's Edition can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99. The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 2.50GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
