It is controlled by a supplied remote control so unlike other such offerings does not require Bluetooth or Wi-Fi to use.
The only things not included are the three ‘AAA’ batteries and possibly a magnifying glass for the limited multi language instructions provided on the box.
A few minutes with the twenty button remote control that also has a double centre joystick (another six choices) and a flip switch on side, so yes the instructions on the box are inadequate.
All you get is a headline control for five of the buttons after that its ‘suck it and see’.
The clip is very strong and will attach to any edge provided you are strong enough to open the very stiff jaws; it will not damage anything as there are six small rubberised grips (three on each side of the jaws) that hold it wherever it is put. A 4cm long arm links this to the shade around the LED bulb, the shade is 7.5cm from back to front, 4cm wide at the closed back and 7cm wide at the front, 2.5cm from the front is a clear circular strip that allows whatever colour of light being produced to flood out the rest of the light comes from the front.
Here’s the surprise the total power used by the LED is 6watts; this is equivalent a standard 35watt bulb and it gives off no less than 300lm.
There are three distinct LED’s in the bulb. The mains lead is 1.8metres and emerges from the base of the arm out of the back of the top jaw and through the back of the bottom jaw making it well held in place and ending at a standard 3pin plug.
From what I have worked out four rows of four buttons on the 18x5.5x15cm remote control have various effects behind them the six button joystick can produce almost any colour so with the effects buttons the possible colours and effects are virtually endless.
I have never been great at working out what an image for an effect is until I have seen what it does and then the penny might drop, so there is a work mode a reading mode a love mode and plenty more for which the penny has yet to drop.
All the modes have various degrees of brightness available, on occasions certain modes can only be achieved from certain other points so there are times when nothing seems to happen.
Perhaps most importantly there is no heat at all from the lamp even when it has been on for several hours; the whole unit comes with a five year warranty.
For those who want fixed LED’s I am promised such LED’s in the next few months that can fit into a standard bayonet light fitment so in normal use they can be a normal bulb and then with the aid of the remote, whatever ever other mood takes your fancy.
Available from the Dunelm link below for £36 it also should be available from B&Q and Bunnings (Homebase)
