An Ocean Trip

Cruising the Med can involve plenty of searching as this title reveals.

If you have any time to spare then Lazy Turtle Games would like to invite you to take an Amazing Cruise of the Mediterranean.  This trip will be carried out in a Hidden Object game conducted on the Ocean Pearl cruise ship as part of the Majestic Wave Cruises Company.

With the usual adjustable settings for background music and sound effects plus full screen viewing capability and a custom cursor, the game can be played with a choice of no time limit, searches conducted within a 10 minute time limit or the speedier option of 3 minute searches.  Concentrating entirely on its Hidden Object action, the game spreads itself over 20 different locations that consist of five specific ship areas and 15 different ports of call that are featured in the actual cruise.

Initially some of the areas or locations will be locked, denying entry until enough progress has been made elsewhere by earning enough stars that are given as rewards for completing specific tasks.  Once accessible, each area or location will present you with a list of 5 items that need to be located.  You will be given a choice in the format or manner in which the required list of objects will be presented.  By default the list is generally shown in text format but this can be changed as the player pleases to silhouettes, jumbled words or a mirror mode.

Starting off by exploring your holiday home for the duration of the cruise you get to visit the Check-in Desks area, Grand Atrium, Restaurant, Ship’s Deck and Library.  But of course the main objective of the cruise is to visit other location.  Your cruise will include locations such as Marseille, Monaco, Valencia, Tunisia, Corsica, Rome, Athens, Granada, Istanbul and Pompeii.  Whether visiting a ship’s area or Cruise location, assistance will be provided when searching for items.  Each scene comes with a recharging Hint feature that is not particularly speedy.  You also have access to a magnifying tool that can be moved around a scene.

The game’s various scenes are well drawn but have a static appearance and feel rather flat and listless.  Although you are provided with an up-to-date number of stars and points gained for completing tasks, the game does not inform you as to which areas or locations with their multiple styles of list presentation have been visited.  Repeat visits to an area or location do offer some variation in the required list content.  Also you are not provided with titbits of information of the locations visited.

I downloaded my copy of this title from Gamehousehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.   The game is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.61. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 175MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
