Developed by BD Studio Games, Our Beautiful Earth 6 is available in Collector's Edition format with several bonus items being added to the game's main exploration of the world. The extra items, available from the game's title screen, consists of 10 bonus locations featuring Hidden Object scenes, access to the 40 mini game puzzles featured in the main game, 19 music tracks and 18 wallpapers. All the extra items are available immediately.
By creating individual profiles, different people can play the game and have their progress recorded, Options are available to set audio volume levels for background music, ambient and sound effects. The game can be viewed in full screen mode with a custom cursor with the game play restricted to a single difficult level.
The product's main game is spread over 40 different locations on a worldwide basis that start in Burntwood Park, England. The visited locations are laid out over a world map image. While you need to follow the set path covered by the locations, their positions on the map rarely reflect their actual locations. One minute you could be visiting England and then you find yourself transferred to Canada before making a return to England.
Each location consists of a main scene and two smaller mini scenes which are accessed via icons on the right side of the main scene. The game's developers have opted to stick with a visual representation of the actual location which is not supplemented with any appropriate text information that might be of interest. Spread over the three scenes dealing with the location are 18 Hidden Object items plus three cats, one camera and a paw print. The actual list of required items will be shown in text format at the bottom of the screen. However the available space is rather limited, there is only enough room to show six items at a time. As each object is found, its entry will be replaced by another until the complete set has been displayed.
When searching for items in the particular locations required list, you have the choice of using two different Hint features. There is a standard Hint feature which will reveal the location of one item while a Special Hint will reveal the position of all the listed items currently visible in the selected scene. Neither of the two Hint features can be used to identify the position of the three cats, camera or paw print. Once found a cat will utter a meow while the camera will take a photo of the scene and the paw print will show the animal who make the print and its cry.
At the conclusion of each location, you will be faced by one of the games 40 mini game puzzles. These are the same mini game puzzles you can practice from the product's title screen. You might be asked to position rectangular shapes on a board, play mah-jong, match pairs of face-down cards, find a specified number of animals within a scene, complete a word square or create a nanogram mosaic. Both the Hint and Skip features are available when tackling these puzzles.
Points earned during the different sections of this game can be used to purchase souvenirs in the game's built-in shop feature. This same area can be used to view the different photos captured by the camera during Hidden Object game play.
While presenting an interesting mix of game play, it was a little disappointing that the opportunity was missed to include facts and titbits of information regarding the different locations covered in the game. I downloaded my copy of the game from Gamehouse.com where the product is priced at $9.99. Our Beautiful Earth 6 requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM running Windows 7 and later.
