click image to enlargeThe Pure DiscovR measures 13cm tall when open and is roughly square at 9cm. It works on its rechargeable internal battery and can be used whilst being charged. A USB ‘C’ to USB cable is supplied in the box but no USB plug front, Pure are being waste conscious and they say that any PC or other device can do the job.
Basic instructions are provided in a fold out Quick Start Sheet but like so many recent devices it is controlled by an App, I had initial problems as the QR code in the guide linked to a stocks and share price guide but what you need is PureHome when your DiscovR is found it loads the Pure DiscovR App.
While you can use it as a dumb speaker the inclusion of Alexa improves that. It was easy to swap between Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Auxiliary. I enjoyed casting music stored on my PC to it with a right click.
All the on unit controls are on the top firstly a colour band around the top in either blue, yellow, white or red dependent on which mode you are in. There are five spots on the top that have actions and another four can be implemented these are Preset corners.
As the unit is so nearly square you have to make sure that the USB ‘C’ socket is away from you as the markings on the top are easy to mistake, the central icon is slightly different but still easy to press the wrong button.
Pure are a company that came about for Radios, to get radio on this unit you have to install Alexa and then get that channel stored on a corner or corners, alternately get Alexa to find the channel you want.
You can download the User Guide in order to setup corners this is essential as I doubt anyone would be able to do it without the User Guide.
While order people - like me – could be disappointed not to be able to lift an aerial and get radio out of the box they are still available via Alexa and four stations can be stored on corners.
While I have an Amazon Alexa account it’s not often used as I tend to use Google. It was somewhat of a surprise that it still worked after a username and password was inserted in the App.
A full recharge was around 210 minutes which is not that quick and this can give around 15 hours of use.
Sound quality was very good from the 3 inch woofer and the pair of 1¼ inch tweeters is has a 45w output.
However as this is on sale far below the RRP it becomes a far better items money wise.
At the time of publication the Pure DiscovR is available in either black or white from Amazon for £69.95.
