Sennheiser Gaming Headset PC 373D

This is one ‘reasonably’ priced brand that is sold by high end audio retailers. So if they choose Sennheiser from the vast range of headphone manufacturers surely anything that Sennheiser bring out must be worth a look at.

This is specifically a gaming headset that is designed for 7.1 systems but also works quite well with 5.1 systems or lower.

With the headphones spread to the earpieces being parallel and the extension arms fully extended there is 21cm from the base of the earpad to the top of the well-padded headband. This includes the maximum extension of 5cm each side. Let’s just say if I met someone with a head that size I would not pick a fight with him.

To fit my average sized head I used just 1cm of the extension and the earpieces were pointing inwards.

These are over ear headphones designed to reduce external noise as a tiny click of a gun being cocked my be life of death to the gamer.

Each earpiece is capable of around 20 degrees of top in movement.

The left earpiece has a boom mic attached that can be flipped up to beside the headband when not required, it in use it sits just forward of the earpiece around 13cm below and following a forward movement so it ends up very close to the left side of your mouth.

The right earpiece has a circular volume control built in to the outside of the pad almost invisible to the eye until you look for it. The velvet material on the inside of the headband and the earpieces should keep your ears satisfied throughout long gaming sessions.

There is a meaty but small manual but do not get excited as it’s a safety guide, there is a small fold out sheet of mainly illustrations to show how to download drivers and connect the headset to a computer.

There are two leads in the box a 2.1metree one to go from the base of the left earpiece to a Dolby headphone dongle, the second to link the base of the dongle to a standard USB connection and this is 1.2metres.

The box itself is well padded to slot the headset back into the box for the times you are playing away from home so it arrives in the best of condition.

On the side of the box inside the outer sleeve is the following statement ‘Sennheiser’s new PC 373D is a high end open acoustic gaming headset that delivers incredibly immersive 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound and crystal clear gaming communications thanks to its high quality, noise cancelling microphone. The sleek surround dongle and powerful PC software perfectly optimizes your experience for competitive and immersive gaming and even music’.

The latter is my thing and I forced myself to listen to some of my favourite tracks to test that statement, I’ve no complaints.

The Sennheiser Gaming Headset PC 373D is available from Amazon for £199.54 with free delivery.
