Adding to the Paint by Numbers genre of titles, Pop Art 4 is the latest entry from the T1 catalogue of image colouring offerings.  This title is based around 64 outlined sketches and an associated colour palette for use when completing the outlines.  The sketches, presented in a photo album style of eight images to a page, have been split up into numerous areas that have been numbered to indicate the appropriate colour that should be applied to that section.

Once selected the chosen sketch will be displayed alongside a panel featuring two colour palettes.  The smaller of these palettes can be used to select a background colour for the actual sketch.  This colour will also be used to highlight the current numbered sections of the sketch that are due to be coloured next.  The second and larger palette displays all the different colours that will be used to complete the sketch.  These colours are numbered similarly to the sections making up the sketch.

When applying the different colours to the sketch, you have a choice over the route you can take.  You can either work through the numbers in sequence with the software making the automatic decision as to when to move on to the next number when the current number has been completed.  If you prefer to see the sketch actually build up as colour is applied, then you could adopt a more random approach by deciding which areas should be coloured in next as you cherry pick the next selection.

While some of the numbered sections of a sketch might be clearly visible, often you may need to deal with rather small sections that might be difficult to notice.  Fortunately you are provided with a couple of tools to assist you in such events.  A control on the panel allows you to zoom into the sketch for an enlarged view.  This same process can also be carried out using the mouse wheel.  Once the sketch has been enlarged, you can select your focused area by moving around the screen using the right mouse button.  At any time you can revert the sketch view to its original size and position by using a revert control on the panel.  Any really difficult to find sections for colouring can be pinpointed using a Hint feature.

While Pop Art 4 allows you to create some colourful images, they are always exactly the same.  You are not allowed to make a mistake either deliberately or accidently, when applying a colour or make changes to the colours fixed to each number.  There is also no built-in feature allowing you to save completed sketches for your own personal use.

I downloaded my copy of this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  This game is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £3.06.  System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 116MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
