Exploring Eldoria

Image of author
A mystical land gives you a choice of puzzle types as you explore its inhabitants and landscape.

A couple of months ago I came across a product developed by The Revills Games entitled Jigsaw Puzzle Lovers 2 which allowed you to put together images categorised as Animals, Flowers, Food and Nature.  Now the company has switched its focus for its jigsaw images to the magical realm of Eldoria with its inhabitants of wizards, elves, fairies and goblins plus scenes containing ancient artefacts, Elemental Stones and mystical creatures.

With its Eldoria background, you can adjust the working environment to suit your style and set up profiles for different players, volume levels, brightness, snap sensitivity and preview opacity.  Further options are available as you select from a choice of three cursors, 28 background images and the default scrolling choice of mouse control.  Once satisfied with the gaming environment, you can move on and view an initial 40 images, in a mixture of portrait and landscape orientation, covering all aspects of the Eldorian realm.

With a chosen image you have a choice of selecting from four different styles of puzzles that each have their own range of settings and options.  You can opt to work with a Jigsaw, Tile Swap, Split Tile or Tile Rotation puzzle.  In each case you can select from various options to suit the particular puzzle type.

When opting to tackle a Jigsaw, you can select from eight different numbers of pieces ranging from 42 up to 1008 plus select from six different shape style.  You can also turn on/off a rotation feature plus decide whether the pieces will be scattered tidily, messy or anywhere when transferred to the work area.  When putting together the pieces of the jigsaw you will have access to a tool bar offering Hint, Border, Zoom facilities, Display the completed image and revert to normal view.  Sometimes, annoyingly, pieces can be overlaid by this tool bar.  Pieces can be moved using the left mouse button while the right mouse button can move the screen around and adjust magnification.

As its title indicates, Tile Swap involves swapping sections of an image.  Once positioned correctly, it will remain fixed and you will receive a sound effect.  The completed image can vary from 6 x 4 to 21 x 14 with a choice of Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty.

The Split Tile puzzle allows you to select from a choice of between 12 to 40 vertical or horizontal strips being created from the image.  You need to move the strips around to their correct positions.  Again you have a choice of opting for an Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty.  A correctly positioned strip will become fixed.

The appropriately named Tile Rotation puzzle type requires you to rotate sections of the image to create a scene.  Each section of the tile will need up to three mouse clicks to rotate to its correct orientation and become fixed  With this puzzle type you can select the numbers of sections from 6 x 4 to 21 x 14 and make the usual choice of Easy, Medium or Hard difficulty.

The completion of each puzzle, you will be informed as to the time taken and given the choice to use it as wallpaper.  The original image will be marked with a star, in an appropriate corner, to show that it has been completed.

As you progress through the game, you will be granted access to a background story of Eldoria.  This story will be presented in book format delivered by a narrator.  Starting with the Enchanted Forest,, you will discover more about the Elder's Warning, Alliance, Quest for the Elemental Stones, Trials and Tribulations, Darkening Shadows, Betrayal, Redemption Showdown, Unveiling of Moras and Restoral of Eldoria.

Fantasy and Jigsaw fans can download this title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  This title can also be downloaded from Big Fish Games priced at £7.86.  System requirements call for a 1.0 GHz processor with 256MB of RAM and 283MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
