Paint by Pixels

Although arriving classified as a relaxing puzzle game, Paint by Pixel seems better suited to the role of a colouring tool with abstract capabilities. Developed by Tiny Little Lion, this offering provides you with a range of sketch-like drawings. These pictures can be coloured in using a set palette whose content can be adjusted to suit your artistic tastes and preferences.
As the product's title indicates, this offering provides the means to add colour to various pre-drawn sketches. The supplied sketches have been divided into five separate categories. You can select from Tiny (14), Small (22), Medium (24), Large (20) or Huge (15) depending upon your artist appetite. The chosen sketch will then be presented centre screen ready for you to begin the colouring process using supplied tools.
To aid you with this task a panel runs down the right side of the screen. This panel will consist of a colour palette plus a vertical list of available tools. Although the individual colours in the palette are numbered in sequence, there is no need to follow these numbers when selecting the order in which the different colours will be applied to the sketch. As each colour is selected, so the relevant sections of the sketch, waiting for that colour, will be highlighted. The highlighting will consist of a grey background and a dotted covering.
You can then make use of the available tools for applying the chosen colour. There are tools for adding the colour using a brush effect as each pixel by pixel is coloured. The size of the brush can be adjusted or you could opt to pour the colour from a paint can which is the preferred option for when working with large areas. When colouring smaller areas, you can select a zoom facility and move around the enlarged areas by using the right mouse button to bring the enlarged desired view into focus.
At any time you can switch to another colour with the result that a new set of appropriate areas will be highlighted ready for you to apply the colour. Also an automatically changing between different colours will take place whenever the full complement of the current colour has been applied.
While each of the supplied sketches comes with its predefined areas linked to specific colours in the supplied palette, you are permitted a degree of customisation in the finished results. Among the available tools build into the product is an Editing Panel. Using this feature, you can adjust the hue, saturation and value of the individual colours in the palette. These changes will be immediately reflected in the colours applied to the sketch as you implement your own artistic personal touch to the created image. Disappointing this Paint by Pixel program does not seem to come with a means of saving your own colourful creations
While I would never consider this title as a puzzle offering, it was enjoyable and capable of producing eye-catching images. I downloaded my copy of the product from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. This title is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.93. System requirements call for a 2.0 GHz processor with 2048MB of RAM and 222MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
