Linking Worlds

As when playing Jumanji, using a Ouija board can cause problems for those attending.

Mysteries Mix - Echoes Between Worlds is a Match 3 game.  This title is the latest edition  to the numerous offering developed by e-Funsoft.  It follows the standard pattern of other Match 3 titles from the same company.  As such you have s story line that spreads over five chapters featuring over 72 Match 3 grid action with linking cut-scenes featuring static characters.

When playing this game you have a choice of Timed or Relaxed action with adjustable music/sound effect levels and full screen viewing plus tutorial style help.  Match 3 action is presented with a centrally positioned grid of embellished tiles sandwiched between supplied power-ups on the left and the specific challenge for the current level on the right.  The challenge lists the type and number of tiles that need to be removed in order to complete the current level.

Removal of the elements making up the challenge is normally carried out by creating groups of three and more similar tiles by swapping two adjacent tiles.  The created group then disappears to be replaced by other tiles falling downwards thus sometimes creating other groups and a cascading effect.

Along with the mixture of general tiles and blockages, grids can sometimes contain special tiles.  e-Funsoft grids occasionally feature some such tiles that  will constantly change their embossed symbol.  By timing your selection of that tile, it could be used as part of a created group.  Some grids will also contain an artefact tile.  The only way to remove this particular tile is by creating a pathway beneath it so that it falls to the bottom of the grid and can disappear.  When used on a grid, the artefact tile will always feature as part of the challenge,

While you are supplied with a small selection of power-ups to help with removing tiles, these power-ups are only valid for the current level.  Fortunately you can make your own power-ups in the form of bombs.  These are created by making matches of five or more tiles.  Again these power-ups will only be usable during the current level.

Each chapter in the game features four upgrades which need to be applied by purchasing them using the stars earned for completing levels.  Following each of the upgrades, a cut-scene, advancing the story line, will be presented.  The story relates the activates of four young children called Jake, Emily, Dave and Eva.  While playing with a Ouija board, they are joined by Icarus who claims to be escaping from monster found on another world.  I will leave you to discover how the story unfolds further but it does appear as if the characters do not like each other as they always appear standing as far apart as possible during cut-scenes.

The game offers nothing new but should keep fans of e-Funsoft Match 3 game play happy.  I downloaded my copy of the title from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  You can also download the game from Big Fish Games where it is priced at £7.65.  The game requires a 1.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 181MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
